Yet another Celtic twist will be added to this years Almonte Celtfest. On Sunday July 13, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. the Ottawa Gaels Gaelic Football team will showcase their talent in an exhibition game for lucky spectators to witness. The club began back in 1974 when Pat Kelly, John Keenan, Don Kavanagh, Frankie Casy, Brendan Mulhall and a few other friends got together and wanted to play a gaelic match. They founded the Ottawa Gaels Gaelic Football team and affiliated themselves with the Toronto Gaelic Athletic Association. Read the rest of this entry »

Celtic music lovers and musicians at all levels are invited to attend the Almonte Celtfests Celtic Music Workshops that are being held in the air conditioned comfort of the Almonte Old Town hall on Saturday July 12, 2008 from 1:00 to 4:30.
From the moment Pierre Schryer,(www.pierreschryer.com), Gearoid O’hAllmhurain (www.gearoid.us) and Ian Clark hit the stage in the acoustically pleasing venue of the Almonte Old Town Hall there wasn’t a still foot in the house. The crowd was tapping and clapping all through the night to a variety of traditional songs. The talent was extraordinary with O’hAllmhurain on the concertina, Schryer on the sizzling fiddle and Clark holding it all together with his guitar accompaniment. During the second half of the concert special guests were brought to the stage and to the un-expecting crowd gave amazing performances. Guests included the very humble Don Kavanagh on the harmonica, Pierre Schryer’s brother Louis Schryer on the fiddle and his two very talented tap dancing daughters. During the encore the audience showed no signs of fatigue as they shouted “We could keep you here all night!”
